Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child within New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started as reporter for TV and radio in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington the following year, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News a year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office within the year 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 in the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 it was the year that Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She reported on a variety of important stories like guns control, tax reform for the budget and the Iran-contra scandal and went on numerous trips together with President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
